Minnesota Crop Forecasts Right on Average

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.41 billion bushels, down 5 percent from last year, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service - Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected to average 191 bushels per acre, no change from the August 1 forecast but a decrease of 3 bushels per acre from last year. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 7.80 million acres. An estimated 7.40 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Soybean production is forecast at 387 million bushels, up 2 percent from last year. The yield is forecast at 50.0 bushels per acre, up 1 bushel from the August 1 forecast and 3 bushels above 2017. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.80 million acres with 7.74 million acres to be harvested.

Sugarbeet production is estimated at 12.0 million tons, down 4 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 30.1 tons per acre, up 0.8 tons from the August 1 forecast but down 0.5 tons from last year.

The forecasts in this report are based on September 1 conditions and do not reflect weather effects since that time. The next crop production forecasts, based on conditions as of October 1, will be released on October 11.
