Wisinski Wins Regional Collegiate Discussion Meet
Minnesota Ag Connection - 10/15/2021

Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) hosted a regional Collegiate Discussion Meet at Southwest State University in Marshall. This year's winner was Jackie Wisinski a sophomore from Stevens Point, Wisconsin who is pursuing an Agronomy degree along with media and broadcasting studies. The runner-up was a junior Lafe Aarsvold, also an Agronomy major from Altura, Minnesota. The Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation sponsors a $200 scholarship for the winner and a $100 scholarship for the runner-up for each regional Collegiate Discussion Meet.

The Collegiate Discussion Meet provides students an opportunity to be judged on their basic knowledge of critical farm issues and their ability to exchange ideas and information in a setting aimed at cooperative problem-solving. The two topics discussed by contestants were:

- How can Farm Bureau improve its effectiveness at recruiting young farmer and rancher (YF&R) members and increasing participation in YF&R programs?

- Agriculture is one of the most hazardous industries, what can we, as young farmers and ranchers, do to create a more preventative, rather than reactive, approach to farm safety in our communities?

Wisinski and Aarsvold will advance to the Minnesota Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet on Nov. 20 as part of the 103rd MFBF Annual Meeting at the DoubleTree Hotel in Bloomington.

The state winner receives an expense-paid trip from the Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation sponsored by Christensen Farms to the American Farm Bureau Federation's Collegiate Discussion Meet on Feb. 25-28 in Louisville, Ky.
