Snowmelt, Receding Floods Saturate Minnesota Fields

Snowmelt and receding floodwaters has led to saturated cropland with some localized flooding across Minnesota. For the week ending Sunday, there was 0.5 day suitable for fieldwork, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. The southern
third of Minnesota reported field activities for the week included some spring tillage and fertilizer application, with a few reports of corn and oats being planted on lighter soils.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 0 percent short, 43 percent adequate, and 57 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 0 percent very short, 1 percent short, 46 percent adequate, and 53 percent surplus.
Respondents indicated livestock conditions have been favorable and calving has continued to progress with no major issues during the week.
