State Egg Product Up 15 Percent from 2016

Minnesota egg production during June 2017 was 259 million eggs, down 3 percent from last month but up 15 percent from last year, according to the latest Chickens and Eggs report from the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The average number of all layers on hand during June 2017 was 10.4 million, a slight decrease from last month but up 6 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers for June were 2,490, down 2 percent from last month but up 8 percent from last year.

United States egg production totaled 8.58 billion during June 2017, up 3 percent from last year. Production included 7.47 billion table eggs, and 1.11 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.03 billion were broiler-type and 73.0 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during June 2017 averaged 370 million, up 1 percent from last year. June egg production per 100 layers was 2,316 eggs, up 1 percent from June 2016.'

All layers in the United States on July 1, 2017 totaled 370 million, up 1 percent from last year. The 370 million layers consisted of 310 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 56.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.13 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on July 1, 2017, averaged 77.2 eggs per 100 layers, up 1 percent from July 1, 2016.

Egg-type chicks hatched during June 2017 totaled 49.0 million, down 15 percent from June 2016. Eggs in incubators totaled 41.5 million on July 1, 2017, down 6 percent from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 334 thousand during June 2017, up 37 percent from June 2016.

Broiler-type chicks hatched during June 2017 totaled 802 million, up 2 percent from June 2016. Eggs in incubators totaled 673 million on July 1, 2017, up 3 percent from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed 8.59 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during June 2017, up 1 percent from June 2016.
