MDA Issues Consumer Advisory for Shaefer's Market All-Beef Wieners
Minnesota Ag Connection - 09/20/2017

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has issued a consumer advisory for meats produced at Schaefer's Market in Sauk Center, Minn., due to lack of proper labeling. During a routine inspection, the MDA determined that Schaefer's used milk and soy products to produce its All-Beef Wieners. Milk and soy, both known food allergens, were not disclosed on the product label. Food allergens may cause an allergic reaction in people with sensitivity to known allergens.

The following specific products are subject to this advisory:

- All-Beef Wieners with a packed on date of 9-1-2017

- 50 pounds were produced in the batch and 40 pounds are accounted for.

The products subject to this advisory bear the establishment number "789" inside the State of Minnesota mark of inspection and a sell by date of 10-1-2017 on the label. These products were sold only from the Schaefer's market in Sauk Center, Minn.

The MDA and the company have not received any reports of adverse reactions or illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about illness should contact a healthcare provider. Consumers who purchased this product should throw it away or return it to the store. Consumers with questions about the advisory can contact the MDA at 651-201-6300.
