Field Conditions Improve for Rapid Minnesota Harvests

Field conditions allowed for the rapid harvest of crops according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Field activities for the week included combining, tilling, and manure applications.

Topsoil moisture supplies were down slightly to 5 percent very short, 16 percent short, 73 percent adequate and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 8 percent very short, 30 percent short, 60 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain reached 70 percent, one day behind last year but eleven days ahead of the average. Corn moisture content of grain at harvest averaged 18 percent.

The soybean harvest was nearly finished at 95 percent complete, one week behind last year but twelve days ahead of the average. Potatoes were also nearly harvested at 96 percent complete.

Sunflowers reached 70 percent harvested. The final sunflower condition of the season rated 44 percent good to excellent.

Sugarbeets advanced to 68 percent harvested, 17 days behind last year and 8 days behind average. The final sugarbeet condition rating of the season remained at 74 percent good to excellent.

Pasture condition declined to 16 percent very poor, 24 percent poor, 39 percent fair, 18 percent good and 3 percent excellent.
