Minnesota Farmers Donate Soy-Based Shoes to Wheaton Ambulance
Minnesota Ag Connection - 06/05/2023

Minnesota farmers, in collaboration with the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC), are making a difference in their communities through the Stepping Up campaign. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the versatility and value of soybeans while giving back to organizations in need.

As part of the campaign, the Traverse County Corn & Soybean Growers Association joined forces with MSR&PC to donate a dozen pairs of Skechers soy-based shoes to the Wheaton Ambulance Service.

The farmers expressed their gratitude for the vital role that the ambulance service plays in their community and saw this donation to honor and support the first responders.

The shoes, part of Skechers' GO line, utilize soybean oil to enhance grip, stability, and durability. This innovation, supported by the soybean checkoff, aligns with the sustainability efforts of companies like Goodyear Tire Company, which incorporates soy into its rubber technology.

In its inaugural leg in 2022, the Stepping Up campaign saw participation from over 53 counties across Minnesota, resulting in nearly 3,000 pairs of soy-based shoes being donated to healthcare facilities. The positive impact on recipients motivated the council to allocate more funds and continue the campaign.

Through this initiative, Minnesota farmers aim to educate consumers about soybean versatility while giving back to their communities. The campaign highlights the broad range of products, from shoes to machinery lubricants and asphalt, that utilize soybean oil.

By supporting the Stepping Up campaign, Minnesota farmers are not only promoting the value-added uses of soybeans but also expressing their gratitude to the Wheaton Ambulance Service and other first responders for their invaluable service to the community.
