A free poultry education event in Grand Marais will gives beginners a chance to learn the basics of poultry production in a simple and practical way. The class is designed for people who want to understand how to care for birds and manage a small poultry setup successfully.

Participants will learn from Extension educator Mercedes Moffett, who will guide the session and explain the key requirements of poultry production. The class covers several important topics, including poultry breeds, nutrition, housing, lighting, disease detection, disease prevention, and biosecurity. These areas are important for anyone planning to raise poultry in a healthy and responsible way.

The event mainly focuses on layer production, which is useful for people interested in raising birds for eggs. It also includes a short overview of broilers and ornamental species, giving attendees a wider understanding of poultry options. This approach helps beginners explore different paths in poultry care while keeping the main attention on basic production needs.

The class takes place on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Central time. It will be held at the Cook County Community Center, located at 317 W 5th St., Grand Marais, MN 55604.
