Explore nitrogen management with the 4rs in Farmington

By Scout Nelson

Get ready for an enlightening session on nitrogen management this March in Farmington! The Advanced Nitrogen Smart event is dedicated to teaching farmers about the 4Rs: Right rate, Right source, Right time, and Right place. This approach aims to maximize crop production efficiency and safeguard our environment.

Scheduled for March 1, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central time, the event will take place at the Farmington Regional Extension Office. This session is ideal for those looking to deepen their understanding of how to apply nitrogen in the most effective way.

Here's what you'll learn about the 4Rs:

  • Right Rate: Discover how to optimize nitrogen rates to benefit both your crops and the environment, using tools like university guidelines and soil tests.
  • Right Source: Learn about the different nitrogen fertilizers and how they interact with the environment to ensure nutrient availability.
  • Right Time: Timing is crucial for nitrogen application. Understand how to align nutrient supply with crop demand for best results.
  • Right Place: Find out the importance of applying nutrients where crops can easily access them, ensuring efficient fertilizer use.

Thanks to the Minnesota Corn Growers' support, attending this event is free. While pre-registration isn't necessary, it's a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable insights into nitrogen management without any fees.

For more details or questions, you can reach out to Brad Carlson, the Extension educator focused on water quality, at bcarlson@umn.edu.

Don't miss this chance to enhance your nitrogen management practices and contribute to a healthier environment while boosting your crop yields.
