Grow Better Gardens with Experts

By Scout Nelson

A special gardening program in Clay County offers participants the opportunity to learn important skills related to plant care and pest management. This course focuses on improving knowledge of plant nutrition, soil health, and effective ways to manage pests in gardens. It includes practical and hands-on learning sessions that help participants maintain productive vegetable gardens throughout the growing season.

The program is part of a series called Gardening Field Days. It is designed to teach people how to grow both food and flowers at home. The course is led by a horticulture educator from the University of Minnesota Extension, providing expert guidance on gardening practices.

This course includes five sessions, held once a month from March to July. Each session covers seasonal topics and offers useful solutions for common gardening problems. Participants learn step by step how to create and maintain a healthy and successful garden.

The classes are conducted outdoors, allowing learners to gain real experience in natural conditions. However, participants should be prepared for uneven ground and changing weather while attending the sessions.

The fee for attending the program is $20 per session, or $80 for all five sessions. Interested individuals must register in advance, either selecting specific sessions or enrolling in the full course. Registration can be completed through the official link.

The organizers are committed to providing equal access to all participants. People who require special accommodations due to disabilities should contact the event team at least two weeks before the program begins. Language support services may also be arranged if requested in advance.

The upcoming session will take place on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on CDT at Probstfield Farm in Moorhead, Minnesota. This program is a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in learning practical gardening skills in an easy and engaging way.
