MDA Leads Agribusiness Mission to Morocco

MDA Leads Agribusiness Mission to Morocco

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is embarking on an important business development mission to Morocco, following a successful trip in 2022. This journey, taking place from January 20 to 26, 2024, includes key representatives from six Minnesota-based agricultural organizations.

This mission marks a significant step in strengthening ties with Morocco, a notable market for Minnesota's agricultural products. In 2022, Minnesota exported ag products worth $13.5 million to Morocco.

The nation's status as a U.S. Free Trade Agreement partner in Africa, its economic resilience, and strategic position as a gateway to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa make it an ideal partner for expanding Minnesota's agricultural footprint.

The delegation, including MDA Commissioner Thom Petersen, Deputy Commissioner Andrea Vaubel, and International Trade Representative Jeffrey Phillips, includes leaders from Minnesota agribusinesses and organizations, showcasing the diverse interests and expertise within the state's agricultural community.

During the mission, the delegation will visit several Moroccan food and agricultural businesses, looking to forge new partnerships and discover additional market opportunities for Minnesota's agricultural products.  These visits are not just about trade but also about learning and sharing agricultural practices and innovations.

The mission, expected to boost Minnesota's agribusiness, will be shared upon the delegation's return, showcasing the proactive approach Minnesota is taking to expand its global agricultural reach, with full details and images documented.
