Minnesota’s agriculture industry generates more than $20 billion in agricultural products annually and remains a major driver of the state’s economy. Representing thousands of farmers, the Minnesota Farm Bureau (MFB) and its political action committees recently announced their endorsements for the 2026 election cycle, a move that could influence rural voting patterns across the state.
Among the key endorsements are Republican Michele Tafoya for the U.S. Senate and Republican state Sen. Eric Pratt for Minnesota’s Second Congressional District. The decisions reflect a notable shift for the Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation PAC (MFBF PAC), which has previously backed Democratic candidates in major races.
Tafoya received the Farm Bureau endorsement over Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidate and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. The endorsement is expected to strengthen her campaign among agricultural and rural voters, where farming issues play a significant role in election decisions.
In Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, MFBF PAC endorsed Eric Pratt in his campaign to replace outgoing Democratic Rep. Angie Craig. The district includes both suburban communities and agricultural areas, making farm policy an important concern for many constituents.
The Farm Bureau also supported Republican incumbent Rep. Brad Finstad in Minnesota’s First Congressional District. Finstad, a fourth-generation farmer and member of the House Agriculture Committee, represents a region with a strong agricultural base and thousands of farms.
At the state legislative level, most endorsements went to Republican candidates. However, several DFL lawmakers, including Sens. Grant Hauschild, Rob Kupec, and Aric Putnam, also received endorsements, highlighting the organization’s support for candidates across party lines on issues affecting agriculture.
The endorsement list provides insight into how the Farm Bureau views candidates’ positions on agricultural policy and rural development. With farming remaining a cornerstone of Minnesota’s economy, these endorsements are expected to carry considerable weight in several competitive races.
The Minnesota Farm Bureau has not endorsed a candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial race, stating that MFBF PAC currently has no endorsement in that contest.
