Minnesota Remains Tops in U.S. Sweet Corn Production



In 2022 there were 93,600 acres of sweet corn harvested in Minnesota with a total production of 15.4 million cwt, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Vegetables 2022 Summary. Fresh market production accounted for 417,000 cwt with a total value of $24.0 million. Production of sweet corn for processing totaled 745,945 tons and was valued at $84.3 million.

Minnesota ranked first for sweet corn production with 27 percent of the nation's production. U.S. sweet corn production totaled 57.2 million cwt.

Green pea production in Minnesota in 2022 totaled 1.71 million cwt from 47,900 harvested acres. The value of green pea production totaled $36.4 million. Minnesota ranked second for green pea production with 31 percent of the nation's production. Pea production in the U.S. totaled 5.42 million cwt.

Producers harvested 2,200 acres of snap beans in Minnesota in 2022 for a total production of 176,000 cwt. Fresh market production totaled 19,400 cwt and was valued at $1.57 million. Processing production accounted for 7,832 tons of production and had a total value of $1.20 million. U.S. snap bean production totaled 14.3 million cwt.
