Nebraska Counties Gain Powerful Mapping Resource

Nebraska Counties Gain Powerful Mapping Resource

By Scout Nelson

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has introduced All Things Nebraska, a new data and mapping platform designed to support communities across the state. This powerful informatics tool offers access to more than 30,000 data layers related to Nebraska’s counties, towns, and rural areas.

Developed in partnership with the University of Missouri’s Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems, the website makes it easier to access and visualize reliable data. The platform helps users—from government officials and nonprofits to business leaders and researchers—gain insights needed to make informed, data-driven decisions.

“All Things Nebraska gives users an easy way to access, analyze and visualize data,” said Katie Larson, an Extension educator and lead developer of the site. “We anticipate policymakers using this site to help them make informed decisions. But regardless of the visitor’s role, it’s a one-stop shop when needing to find a data-driven answer to a question about our state.”

One of the main features is the Nebraska County Report Card, a tool that allows users to compare county performance against state and national benchmarks through clear, easy-to-understand visualizations. Extension professionals can use the platform to identify programming priorities and measure their impact.

The website also includes the Nebraska Rural Poll Interactive Report, which adds nearly 30 years of survey data to the platform. It shows the views of rural Nebraskans on key issues like housing, economy, civil discourse, AI, and well-being.

“All Things Nebraska is more than just a collection of data,” Larson said. “It’s a comprehensive database resource to help Nebraskans understand community needs, allocate resources effectively and make data-informed decisions.”

From planning development projects to applying for funding or conducting research, All Things Nebraska helps build stronger, more vibrant communities across the state.
