Climate Resilience Program Helps Minnesota Farmers Adapt

Climate Resilience Program Helps Minnesota Farmers Adapt

By Scout Nelson

Farmers in northeastern Minnesota will have an opportunity to strengthen their operations through the Climate Resilience for Farmers program scheduled for November 9-10, 2026, at the Cloquet Forestry Center. The two-day event will help producers prepare for weather and climate challenges by developing practical farm management strategies.

The program is designed to help farmers understand how climate variability may affect their operations and identify approaches that improve long-term resilience. Participants will work with fellow producers to develop whole-farm management plans that build on their existing knowledge and experience.

Attendees will evaluate climate-related risks and opportunities while exploring strategies that support both farm profitability and family goals. The training will focus on management practices that reduce risk and improve long-term sustainability.

Organizers will provide tools and resources to help farmers strengthen decision-making and implement climate resilience strategies. Participants will also learn how to measure the effectiveness of those strategies over time.

The program is open to producers involved in specialty crops, row crops and livestock operations. It also offers opportunities for networking, peer learning and collaboration with farmers from across the region.

The event is hosted by University of Minnesota Extension, Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships (RSDP), the University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership, and the Land Stewardship Project. The collaborative effort aims to support Minnesota agriculture through research-based education and practical planning resources.

Participation is free, and meals will be provided. Registration is open through October 22, 2026, and participants are expected to attend both days of the program.
