By Scout Nelson

This summer, educators in Minnesota have a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of agriculture and bring fresh, engaging content back to their classrooms.

Minnesota Ag in the Classroom (MAITC) is rolling out its Summer Teacher Tours, set for June and July, aiming to enrich K-12 education with agricultural wisdom.

Sue Knott, an education specialist with MAITC, invites teachers of all backgrounds to explore the state's agricultural industry through these insightful tours. "Whether you consider yourself an ag novice or expert, our Summer Teacher Tours offer unique hands-on experiences," says Knott.

Upcoming Tours:

The Hands that Feed Us (Mankato, MN; June 18): A Day spent understanding the farm-to-plate journey, featuring direct learning experiences from local farmers.

Orchard to Market (White Bear Lake, MN; July 9): Dive into the lifecycle of apples in the Twin Cities, including a tour of Pine Tree Apple Orchard and more.

Farm, Fiber, and Fabrication (Bemidji, MN; July 22): Explore the links between agriculture and manufacturing, including how wool is transformed into everyday products.

These tours are designed for all Minnesota K-12 educators looking to enhance their curriculum with real-world agricultural applications, covering core subjects like science, social studies, and math in innovative ways.

Registration is open until June 1, 2024, with an early bird discount available through April 15. For more details and to register, educators are encouraged to visit the MAITC Summer Teacher Tour web page.

This initiative is a collaboration between the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the MAITC Foundation, aimed at boosting agricultural literacy among students.

Don't miss this chance to expand your educational toolkit with invaluable agricultural insights this summer!
