Farmfest 2024 - Key event for political and agricultural insights

Farmfest 2024, the esteemed agricultural event dating back to 1972, is once again set to captivate attendees with its blend of political engagement and agricultural education.

Scheduled for August 6-8 at the Gillfillan Estate near Redwood Falls, Minnesota, this event strategically occurs right before the primary elections, making it a crucial stop for political candidates and a focal point for agricultural professionals.

Over the course of three days, Farmfest will host a series of candidate forums, pivotal for understanding the political landscape affecting Minnesota's farmers.

These forums are scheduled alongside discussions on pressing agricultural issues, providing a comprehensive platform for both education and policy engagement.

Event Highlights:

Day 1: Tuesday, August 6

Morning kicks off with a corn and soybean marketing discussion at 8:30 a.m.

At 9:30 a.m., a panel including University of Minnesota economist Bob Craven and others will discuss surviving in a down agricultural economy.

The first Congressional Candidate Forum, covering candidates from the First and Second Districts, begins at 10:30 a.m.

Linder Farm Network’s noon show at 12:00 p.m.

The second Congressional Candidate Forum for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Districts starts at 1:15 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., Jeff Gould presents “America's Story.”

Day 2: Wednesday, August 7

The day opens with the Ag Outlook Forum at 9:00 a.m., featuring insights from Christy Goldsmith Romero and other panel members.

At 10:30 a.m., the U.S. Senate Candidate Forum takes place.

Another edition of the Linder Farm Network noon show at 12:00 p.m.

Updates on the Minnesota Ag Industry begin at 1:10 p.m.

A panel on Farm Bill fatigue, questioning Congress' ability to pass a Farm Bill, featuring U.S. Senator Tina Smith and other key figures at 1:30 p.m.

Day 3: Thursday, August 8

The day starts at 8:00 a.m. with the University of Minnesota Manure Applicator Certification Program.

At 10:45 a.m., the Women in Ag Event and the Farmfest “Women Farmer of the Year” program are scheduled.

Linder Farm Network’s noon show repeats at 12:00 p.m.

The event concludes with the University of Minnesota “Farm Family Recognition Program” at 1:15 p.m.

Livestock Tent Programs:

Tuesday: Update on the H5N1 Outbreak at 11:15 a.m.

Wednesday: Discussion on Prop 12, feedlot regulations, and other livestock policy issues at 11:15 a.m.

Thursday: A session on Beef Quality Assurance and Certification at 10:00 a.m.
