Minnesota Second in U.S. for Sweet Corn, Pea Production



In 2021 there were 93,100 acres of sweet corn harvested in Minnesota with a total production of 14.4 million cwt, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service -- Vegetables 2021 Summary. Minnesota ranked second for sweet corn production with 25 percent of the nation's production. U.S. sweet corn production totaled 57.7 million cwt.

Green pea production in Minnesota in 2021 totaled 1.55 million cwt from 53,400 harvested acres. The value of green pea production totaled $26.0 million. Minnesota ranked second for green pea production with 34 percent of the nation's production. Pea production in the U.S. totaled 4.54 million cwt.

Producers harvested 2,900 acres of snap beans in Minnesota in 2021 for a total production of 304,500 cwt. Fresh market production totaled 38,700 cwt and was valued at $5.53 million. Processing production accounted for 13,261 tons of production and had a total value of $908,000. U.S. snap bean production totaled 15.1 million cwt.
