Poultry Housing and Care Workshop

Poultry Housing and Care Workshop

By Scout Nelson

A Small Poultry Flock Workshop will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Central Time) in Park Rapids, Minnesota. The event will be held at Northwoods Bank, 1200 First St E, Park Rapids, MN 56470.

This educational session is designed for anyone interested in raising backyard poultry. Whether participants are beginners or have some experience, the workshop will review the foundations of maintaining a healthy and productive small flock.

During the program, attendees will explore important topics related to poultry care. The session titled “Flock foundations and coop conversations” will cover proper nutrition, housing, and disease prevention. Participants will also discuss common myths about poultry care and learn how to avoid mistakes that may affect flock health.

The workshop will highlight mobile poultry housing systems and share information about heritage breed research. These topics help poultry owners understand how different housing styles and bird breeds can improve productivity and animal welfare. Practical strategies for keeping flocks' disease free will also be presented.

Participants will have the opportunity to connect with University of Minnesota Extension educators and poultry producers who share a passion for raising birds responsibly. The event encourages open discussion and learning through shared experiences.

This workshop is offered four times during the winter season to make it accessible to more people. The registration fee is $10, and advance registration is required. Interested individuals can register online.

University of Minnesota Extension is committed to equal opportunity participation. Individuals needing disability accommodations are encouraged to contact the event organizers at least two weeks before the event. The program will be delivered in English, and interpreter services may be available upon advance request.

This workshop provides a valuable learning opportunity for community members who want to raise healthy poultry flocks and improve their knowledge of responsible animal care.
