A hands-on beekeeping workshop provides Minnesota veterans with an opportunity to learn about honeybees, pollinators, and modern beekeeping practices. The educational program welcomes participants with all levels of experience, including those who are completely new to beekeeping.
The workshop is scheduled for October 11, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. CDT at the Bee Veterans apiary near MSP Airport in Richfield, Minnesota. The event is designed to help veterans strengthen their understanding of honeybee biology while building a stronger connection with these important pollinators.
Honeybees play a vital role in agriculture and food production. They help pollinate many crops, flowers, fruits, and vegetables that support farms and communities. Through educational programs like this, participants learn how bees contribute to healthy ecosystems and agricultural success.
The workshop combines classroom-style instruction with practical field experience. Participants have the opportunity to enter the apiary and observe bee colonies in a real working environment. This hands-on approach helps learners better understand the daily responsibilities involved in managing honeybee colonies.
During the event, instructors share information about both basic and advanced beekeeping techniques. Topics include honeybee behavior, hive management, colony health, seasonal care practices, and ways to support strong bee populations throughout the year. Participants also receive practical tips that can help them successfully manage bees during different seasons.
The program is open to Minnesota veterans regardless of their previous beekeeping experience. Whether participants have worked with bees for years or have never entered an apiary before, the workshop provides valuable information and learning opportunities. This welcoming environment encourages participants to ask questions, share experiences, and develop new skills.
Safety remains an important part of the training experience. Protective equipment, including bee veils and bee jackets, is provided for participants during apiary activities. Attendees are required to wear face protection, long pants, and closed-toe shoes while working around bee colonies. These measures help create a safe and comfortable learning environment for everyone involved.
The workshop is offered free of charge, making it accessible to veterans interested in learning about beekeeping without financial barriers. Because space is limited, advance registration is required. Participants must be at least 18 years old to join the program.
The event also supports accessibility and equal participation. Accommodation requests for individuals with disabilities are welcomed, and interpreter services may be available when requested in advance. The program is delivered in English and aims to ensure that all participants have a positive learning experience.
