West Otter Tail Farm Earns Minnesota Family Farm Honor

West Otter Tail Farm Earns Minnesota Family Farm Honor

By Scout Nelson

The Fronning family of West Otter Tail County has been named one of Minnesota’s 2026 Farm Families of the Year. They will be recognized along with 85 other farm families during Minnesota Farmfest in August.

The family farm was established in 1968 and transitioned to a certified organic dairy operation in 2017. Today, Dennis and Melissa Fronning milk 45 cows, market their milk through Organic Valley, and use rotational grazing while growing corn and alfalfa for livestock feed.

The Fronnings’ 15 children have played an important role in supporting the operation and helping ensure its continued success. The family has also been actively involved in 4-H programs and local agricultural activities.

The University of Minnesota Farm Family of the Year program recognizes farm families that demonstrate leadership, innovation, and dedication to agriculture. Honorees represent a broad range of farming operations across the state.

The 2026 Farm Family of the Year recognition ceremony will be held on Aug. 6 during Minnesota Farmfest near Redwood Falls.
