4-H Horse Clinic for Youth

4-H Horse Clinic for Youth

By Scout Nelson

Pipestone County 4-H horse project members have an exciting opportunity to improve their riding and horsemanship skills at a special Horse Clinic planned for June 23, 2026. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Pipestone County Fairgrounds.

The clinic will be led by experienced 4-H volunteer Rachelle Backer. It is designed to provide young riders with a supportive environment where they can learn, practice, and build confidence. Participants will receive hands-on training in basic horsemanship, along with experience in different riding disciplines such as pleasure and English riding.

The program focuses on helping riders better understand their horses and improve communication with them. Students will learn how to guide, control, and connect with their horses effectively. This training is important for both beginners and experienced riders, as it helps develop safe riding habits and builds confidence inside and outside the arena.

The clinic is open to all 4-H horse project members, regardless of their skill level. Whether someone is new to horse riding or has several years of experience, this event offers valuable learning opportunities. It is also a great way for participants to prepare for the upcoming show season.

The cost to attend the clinic is $10 per participant, which includes lunch. Since space may be limited, early registration is strongly encouraged. Interested members must complete the registration form before the deadline. Registration link is here.

The event will be held at Pipestone County Fairgrounds, located at 10th Ave SE, Pipestone, Minnesota. For additional information, participants can contact Brandi Schaap, Extension Educator for 4-H Youth Development, via email at bmraatz@umn.edu or phone at 507-825-1190.

Overall, the clinic promises to be a fun and educational experience, helping young riders improve their skills, connect with their horses, and gain confidence in future competitions.
