Crop Innovation Workshop Set for July 7

Crop Innovation Workshop Set for July 7

By Scout Nelson

The University of Minnesota’s Forever Green Initiative is preparing to host a special workshop focused on crop diversification and food innovation. The event will take place on July 7, 2026, at the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus and will bring together professionals interested in agriculture, food products, and sustainability.

The workshop will focus on the use of Kernza perennial grain and other continuous living crop ingredients. These crops are gaining attention because they can support regenerative agriculture while also creating new opportunities for food companies and consumers.

Organizers plan to provide an interactive learning experience that combines practical demonstrations, success stories, and group discussions. Participants will learn how innovative crop ingredients can be used to develop new food products while supporting environmental goals and community resilience.

A major topic of discussion will be how continuous living crops can contribute to long-term agricultural sustainability. These crops help keep living roots in the soil throughout the year, which may improve soil health, reduce erosion, and support natural ecosystems. At the same time, they provide food manufacturers with unique ingredients that can be incorporated into a variety of products.

The workshop is designed for individuals working in several areas of the food and agriculture industries. Professionals involved in product sustainability, research and development, procurement, brand management, marketing, and related fields are encouraged to participate.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear examples of successful product development efforts and explore how sustainability can become part of a product’s story. Consumer interest in environmentally responsible products continues to grow, making these discussions especially valuable for businesses seeking new market opportunities.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Time on July 7, 2026. Interested participants must register in advance. Multiple ticket options are available based on organizational affiliation and professional background.
