Minnesota is set to receive a massive boost for its rural infrastructure and food supply chain, thanks to generous funding. Early this week, Tom Vilsack, the USDA secretary, declared a whopping $230 million grant for the state. This substantial fund comes under the Biden administration's prominent “Investing in America” campaign.
The announcement took place at The Good Acre, with Vilsack interacting with local producers and business bigwigs. He pointed out over 30 Agri-centric investments that are part of this fund.
Some of the money is earmarked for the betterment of electric infrastructure, ensuring a safer and more dependable electrical grid. Rural areas will also witness improved drinking water systems and advanced wastewater facilities, courtesy of this funding.
A variety of programs is part of this financing:
• Electric Loan Program
• Community Facilities Program
• Business and Industry Loan Guarantee Program
• Water & Waste Disposal initiatives
• Food Supply Chain Guaranteed Loan Program
• Meat and Poultry Production Expansion And more
This funding will have wide-reaching effects. A few notable allocations include $4.1 million directed towards a beef and pork processing unit in Waubun, a $2.8 million loan dedicated to street renovations in Silver Lake, and a significant $82.4 million for enhancing the power lines spanning hundreds of miles.
There's also an emphasis on adopting smart grid technology for a more modern approach.
