Minnesota releases 2024 crop data

Minnesota releases 2024 crop data

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) together with the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) has released the results of the 2024 Minnesota Field Crop Trials.

These trials are critical in providing farmers with reliable and unbiased information to make informed seed choices, enhancing farm profitability and quality of life throughout Minnesota.

This year’s trials encompassed a variety of crops that are fundamental to agriculture in the state, including barley, canola, corn grain, oat, soybean, spring wheat, winter rye, and winter wheat. Each crop undergoes rigorous testing to evaluate its performance under local conditions, ensuring that the data is directly applicable to Minnesota’s unique agricultural environment.

The University of Minnesota has a long history of conducting these trials, with reports published since the late 1880s. However, it was not until 1948 that these reports were compiled into a single comprehensive annual publication. Today, the results are easily accessible online, allowing farmers everywhere to benefit from the research.

Hosted on varietytrials.umn.edu/2024, the trials are carried out at several Research and Outreach Centers across Minnesota, as well as on cooperating farms. This widespread testing ensures a broad set of data, reflecting the diverse agricultural conditions across the state.

The trials aim to not only aid in seed selection but also to drive advancements in agricultural practices, contributing to the overall economic growth and enhanced quality of life in Minnesota. By providing these insights, the University of Minnesota reaffirms its commitment to supporting the state’s agricultural community through science and research.

Farmers and agricultural professionals interested in the latest crop performance data can visit the website to view detailed results from the 2024 trials, making well-informed decisions for the upcoming planting season.
