Minnesota Youth Livestock Grants Open for Applicants

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota State Fair is offering an exciting opportunity for young livestock exhibitors through its Beginning Exhibitor Livestock Learning Experience (BELLE) grant. This program provides financial assistance and mentorship to first-time participants, encouraging youth involvement in agriculture and livestock showing.

BELLE Grants for Youth Exhibitors

Funded by the Minnesota State Fair Foundation, the BELLE grant awards $500 to exhibitors of large animals, including beef and dairy cattle, horses, sheep, swine, goats, and llamas. Small-animal exhibitors, such as those showcasing rabbits and poultry, receive $250. A total of 15 grants will be distributed.

The financial support helps cover costs such as travel, lodging, and supplies needed for participation. Eligible applicants must be Minnesota residents between the ages of 10 and 18.

Mentorship and Learning Opportunities

In addition to financial aid, the State Fair is seeking experienced exhibitors to serve as peer mentors for grant recipients. This mentorship program provides guidance throughout the show season, helping newcomers navigate the competition and improve their livestock handling skills.

Application Deadline and Details

Applications for both the BELLE grant and peer mentorship program are open until April 1. Young livestock enthusiasts interested in applying can find more information at mnstatefair.org.

This initiative supports the next generation of agricultural leaders, ensuring they have the resources and mentorship needed to succeed in livestock exhibition.
