A special workshop on pig health is scheduled to help individuals who raise pigs of all types and sizes. This includes those managing small herds as well as exhibition hogs. The program focuses on improving knowledge about basic pig health and disease prevention.
The workshop will cover important topics such as common pig diseases and emerging health threats that farmers should monitor closely. Participants will gain a better understanding of how to keep their animals healthy and reduce the risk of illness. The training is designed in a simple and practical way so that even beginners can easily follow and apply the lessons.
One of the key highlights of this workshop is the creation of a biosecurity plan. Participants will develop a plan that is customized specifically for their farms. Biosecurity helps prevent entry and spread diseases, making it an essential tool for maintaining healthy livestock. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop so they can actively work on their plans during the session.
The workshop is free of cost and includes a light meal, making it accessible to a wide audience. Funding support has been provided through an educational grant from the National Pork Board for Pork Checkoff. However, registration is mandatory, and interested participants must sign up in advance using the provided link here.
The event will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM CDT. It will be held at the Rice County Extension Office located in Faribault, Minnesota.
The organizers are committed to providing equal opportunities for all participants. Accommodation support is available for individuals with disabilities if requested in advance. Interpreter services may also be arranged when needed.
This workshop provides a valuable opportunity to learn practical skills, improve farm practices, and ensure better pig health through effective planning and care.
