Will you be at Farmfest next week? Stop by the Soil Health Tent!
The Sustainable Farming Association, the Minnesota Soil Health Coalition, Forever Green Initiative, and Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certification Program are partnering to host the tent (located on SR14). At the tent, you will find:
- Rainfall simulator and slake test demonstrations
- Roller crimper and no-till drill on display
- Children's activities
- Drawings for free soil health event registrations
- Numerous demonstration crop plots: Kernza, rolled/crimped cereal rye, cover crops, small grains, wide row corn, and Rhyzogreen.
- Soil health experts and farm mentors to answer your questions on implementation, equipment modification, seed availability, market development and more.
- Kernza snacks
- Shade!
SFA looks forward to sharing practical and simple tools for measuring the health of your soil and showing off the up and coming perennial crops being developed at the University of Minnesota that have the potential to improve soil health, sequester carbon and diversify farm income. Mark Gutierrez of the Minnesota Soil Health Coalition puts it well: "Through education and exposure to these topics, farmers can begin to collaborate and creatively plan for improving water and soil quality."
Farmfest runs Aug. 2-4 in Morgan. Tickets are $8 online and $10 at the gate. Kids 17 and under get in free. Learn more and get your tickets here.
