Governor Tim Walz has announced that the 2024 Minnesota Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener will take place at Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center in Sandstone. This annual event, a highlight of Minnesota’s outdoor culture, will be held on Nov. 8 and 9, 2024.
Organized by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Explore Minnesota, the event celebrates the state’s deer hunting heritage while fostering discussions on conservation and outdoor skills.
Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan expressed excitement for the event, noting the center’s ability to showcase Minnesota’s natural resources and hunting lands. Osprey Wilds, a 780-acre nature campus, provides year-round outdoor learning experiences and serves over 15,000 people annually.
Event highlights include a deer processing demonstration, a venison sampling, and a tour of Sandstone Wildlife Management Area.
The opener will bring together various partners, including Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Bluffland Whitetails Association, and the Minnesota Conservation Federation, who are committed to introducing new hunters and fostering connections through outdoor experiences.
The Governor’s Deer Hunting Opener is an event that not only celebrates tradition but also brings attention to the economic importance of hunting, tourism, and conservation in Minnesota.
