The Minnesota Grown Retailer of the Year contest, organized by Minnesota Grown and the Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA), invites grocery and liquor retailers statewide to participate. This annual contest recognizes retailers who creatively showcase Minnesota Grown products, supporting local farmers and promoting the state's agricultural diversity.
Retailers can enter the contest by creating engaging in-store displays, promotions, or digital campaigns that highlight local products such as fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy, alcoholic beverages, and more. The contest runs until October 10, 2025, with entries required by 4 p.m. that day.
Stores must select a one-week window between August 1 and September 30 to showcase Minnesota Grown products. Whether it’s through creative displays, tasting stations, or events, the contest encourages retailers to engage customers and emphasize the value of locally sourced goods.
“This contest is a fun and meaningful way for grocers to spotlight the incredible diversity of locally grown and raised products right as harvest season hits its peak,” said Jennifer Alexander, Regional Marketing Specialist at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. “We’re excited to see this year’s creativity and to celebrate the strong relationships between stores, producers, and the communities they serve.”
MGA President Patrick Garofalo also emphasized the role of grocers in connecting communities to local products. “Grocers are deeply rooted in their communities and take pride in connecting Minnesotans with the best our state has to offer,” he said.
Regional winners will be chosen, with additional recognition for outstanding promotions of beer, wine, and spirits. The People’s Choice Award will also be determined by public voting on the Minnesota Grown Facebook page. Winners will receive recognition at the MGA Awards Luncheon in 2026, as well as exclusive use of the “Minnesota Grown Retailer of the Year” logo.
For more details or to enter, visit the contest webpage and submit entries before October 10.
