The Minnesota Department of Agriculture's (MDA) Organic Certification Cost-Share Program offers organic producers and handlers in the state of Minnesota a fantastic chance to lower their certification expenses. Under this program, individuals certified under the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Organic Program may be eligible to receive reimbursement for costs associated with their organic certification.
With a maximum refund of $750 per category, the rebate scheme pays up to 75% of the expenses spent between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. Crops, animals, processing/handling, and wild harvesting are some of these categories.
For farmers who want to achieve the national organic requirements, which call for meticulous record reviews and on-site inspections every year, this cost-share program is essential.
Interested parties must submit their applications by October 31, 2024. It's important to note that funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. This support stems from a cooperative agreement with the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA), ensuring robust backing for Minnesota’s organic sector.
Applicants can find more details and apply directly via the MDA website or through their local FSA Office. For further guidance, Cassie Dahl at the MDA is available for contact through email or by phone.
This program not only supports the financial aspect of organic certification but also encourages sustainable and organic farming practices across Minnesota. By providing financial aid for certification, the MDA aims to boost organic farming initiatives, ensuring consumers have access to authentic organic products while supporting the local economy and environment.
