The 4-H Plant Science program invites youth in grades 3-5 to join an exciting fall adventure in plant science through the 4-H Science Sprouts program. Participants will explore how fruits and vegetables grow, change, and move from farm to table.
This fall, three interactive virtual sessions are scheduled, each lasting 30 minutes and held on the fourth Monday of October, November, and December. Each session focuses on a seasonal favorite: apples, pumpkins and squash, or potatoes. Hands-on experiments will help youth understand plant biology, seasonal harvests, and the science behind what they eat.
The Zoom sessions are scheduled from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Central Time on the following dates:
- Monday, October 27 – Apple oxidation experiment
- Monday, November 24 – Pumpkin and squash exploration
- Monday, December 22 – Potato circuit experiment
Youth who register by October 9 will receive a special experiment kit in the mail. Late registration is possible up to one week before each session, and participants will receive a materials list and instructions to join the webinars.
4-H Science Sprouts is designed for curious young minds who want to learn about plant science and the environment. The program is free to attend, with optional material costs. University of Minnesota Extension ensures equal opportunities for participation and can provide accommodations for disabilities upon request.
This virtual program provides a safe, fun, and educational environment for youth to discover the wonders of plants, engage in science experiments, and connect with peers who share a love of learning. Parents and youth are encouraged to register early to receive full program benefits and experiment kits.
