The Organic Fruit Growers Association (OFGA), in partnership with the University of Minnesota Extension, is launching a climate resilience program tailored for organic fruit growers. This initiative aims to address the challenges posed by extreme weather and climate change by providing growers with resources to prepare their farms for a sustainable future.
This program includes workshops, financial planning support, and grants to fund climate resilience projects. Organic fruit growers, or those transitioning to organic practices in Minnesota or Wisconsin, are eligible to participate.
The program involves a three-part workshop series. Two workshops will be conducted remotely on December 17, 2024, and January 7, 2025, while an in-person workshop is scheduled for January 23, 2025, in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Participants will also complete an online financial management class between January and February 2025, followed by a one-on-one financial consultation session between February and March 2025.
Growers will develop a climate resilience plan and may apply for grant funding of $1,000 to $10,000 to support climate-specific investments on their farms. The funding will depend on the proposal's scope and the number of applicants.
Participation in all components is mandatory for those seeking grant funding. For those not interested in grants, participation is flexible, allowing involvement in specific parts of the program.
This opportunity is limited, so interested growers should secure their spots promptly. The program aims to equip growers with essential skills and resources to tackle climate challenges and ensure long-term sustainability. For more details, contact OFGA or visit their website.
