The University of Minnesota is organizing a Cover Crop Field Day titled “Setting up for Success” on June 25 at the Southwest Research and Outreach Center near Lamberton. This event is designed to help participants understand the benefits and practical use of cover crops in agriculture.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., including lunch. The field tour will start on time and will take place regardless of weather conditions. The event is open to everyone, including those with little or no experience in covering cropping, as well as professionals working in the agriculture sector.

For more details and to register in advance, please visit online (register by June 19 to ensure a meal. You can also register directly at the website. Late registrations and walk-ins are welcome, but early registration is recommended to guarantee your meal.

The field day will include various tour stops and indoor sessions. Topics will cover important farming practices such as choosing the right seeding rates for cereal rye, timing crop termination, and understanding how cover crops interact with soybeans. Attendees will also learn how to measure soil erosion and explore different planting strategies, including camelina crops.

Additional demonstrations will focus on interseeding cover crops into short crops, using cover crops for grazing, and selecting crops that support pollinators. Experts will also discuss how cover crops affect the broader agricultural landscape and environment.

The event will feature experienced educators, researchers, and students from agricultural departments who will share knowledge through practical demonstrations and discussions. Their goal is to provide simple and effective solutions that farmers and agricultural workers can apply in their fields.

This field day offers a valuable opportunity to learn new techniques, improve farming practices, and understand sustainable agriculture better. The event is free of cost, making it accessible to all interested participants.
