MDA Hosts Clay County Collection

MDA Hosts Clay County Collection

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) will hold a free waste pesticide collection event in Clay County on July 16. The program is designed to help farmers, residents, and businesses safely dispose of unwanted and unusable pesticides. People from all counties are welcome to participate in this important environmental initiative.

The collection event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at CHS Ag Service, located at 334 1st St. East, Ulen. The service aims to provide a safe and convenient way to remove old or unused pesticide products from homes, farms, and businesses.

The program accepts a variety of agricultural and consumer pesticides. Eligible products include insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and rodenticides. Proper disposal of these products helps prevent accidental contamination of soil and water resources while protecting public health.

Participants should note that some materials will not be accepted. These include crop oils, adjuvants, pesticide rinsate, fertilizer, treated seed, contaminated soil, and empty pesticide containers. Removing these products through approved channels helps ensure safe handling and environmental protection.

The event is open to a wide range of users, including farmers, homeowners, commercial pesticide applicators, golf courses, lawn care companies, structural pest control operators, and other businesses that use pesticides. No pre-registration is required, making participation easy and convenient.

The collection site will accept up to 300 pounds of eligible pesticide products free of charge. Individuals or organizations wishing to dispose of more than 300 pounds are requested to call 612-214-6843 in advance to make necessary arrangements.

The MDA's Waste Pesticide Collection Program has been serving Minnesota communities since 1990. Through this long-running initiative, more than 10 million pounds of waste pesticides have been collected across the state. The program has significantly reduced risks to Minnesota’s land, water, and natural environment.

Additional details about the program are available through the official MDA Waste Pesticide Collection Program webpage.

By participating in this free event, pesticide users can safely dispose of unwanted products while helping protect Minnesota’s valuable natural resources for future generations.
