MDA Seeks Farmer Feedback for 2025

MDA Seeks Farmer Feedback for 2025

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is inviting produce farmers across the state to fill out the 2025 Grower Questionnaire. This initiative is particularly focused on those who have either never participated or haven't completed the questionnaire since 2022.

By participating, farmers play a crucial role in shaping the resources and support systems designed to boost food safety practices on farms throughout Minnesota.

The Grower Questionnaire is a key tool used by the MDA to understand and adapt to the changing dynamics of the state’s produce sector. It assists the department in crafting targeted assistance and regulations that ensure the safety of locally grown produce. Assistant Commissioner Patrice Bailey emphasized the importance of the questionnaire in providing the necessary support to maintain high standards of food safety that protect both the growers and consumers.

Farmers who take the time to complete the questionnaire not only contribute to a broader understanding of Minnesota's agricultural landscape but may also qualify for the Produce Safety Mini-Grant.

This grant offers up to $800 in reimbursements for expenses related to enhancing food safety on farms. Details on how to apply for this mini grant will be released later this winter.

The questionnaire, which needs to be updated every three years by each produce farm, is an essential part of the MDA's efforts to keep track of and assist the agricultural community.

Information regarding farm contact details and location is kept private and confidential, ensuring that individual data is protected. However, general farm statistics will be compiled and publicly shared to provide an overview of the sector's status and needs.

For those who might opt out of the questionnaire, the MDA Produce Safety Program will follow up directly to discuss the farm’s food safety obligations and potential inspection requirements.

Farmers interested in completing the 2025 MDA Grower Questionnaire can do so online, or they can contact the MDA Produce Safety Program directly to request a paper copy or for further information.

This proactive approach by the MDA underscores its commitment to enhancing food safety practices across Minnesota's farming operations, ensuring the health and well-being of consumers and the sustainability of the state’s produce industry.
