Minnesota farmer joins US soybean export council leadership

By Scout Nelson

Joel Schreurs, a seasoned Minnesota farmer, has taken a significant step in his agricultural leadership journey by securing a spot on the Executive Committee of the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC). Schreurs, with a rich history of advocacy in the soybean industry and agricultural policy, emphasizes the rewarding nature of trade and its complexities.

His election to represent the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC) on the USSEC was announced during the Commodity Classic in Houston, Texas, where he was named secretary.

Schreurs brings to USSEC his extensive experience, including his service on the American Soybean Association (ASA) and his leadership in market development for U.S. soy globally.

USSEC CEO Jim Sutter praised the board's diversity and the critical role of U.S. Soy in the global market, noting the $39.8 billion contribution of soy exports to the U.S. economy last year.

Schreurs, who farms soybeans, corn, and alfalfa with his family in Lincoln County, Minnesota, has been a prominent figure in agricultural boards and associations, advocating for soy transportation and export markets.

Looking ahead, Schreurs is excited about his role in expanding market access and share for U.S. Soy globally, leveraging his expertise in export markets and trade policy.

His candidacy for an open seat on the MSR&PC underlines his commitment to the soybean industry and the importance of leadership in navigating the complexities of global trade.

Schreurs' involvement with the Soy Excellence Center, aimed at training leaders in the food and agriculture supply chains of developing markets, reflects his vision for the future of soy exports.

His role in the USSEC and potential position on the MSR&PC highlights the significant impact of experienced leadership in advancing the interests of soybean farmers on both a national and global stage.
