Fairgoers visiting the 2025 Minnesota State Fair can explore a wide range of interactive and educational activities at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s exhibit. The exhibit is designed to connect families of all ages with agriculture in fun and engaging ways.
Each morning, children can enjoy “read and grow” story time sessions at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., hosted by Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom. The sessions feature guest readers, agriculture-themed books, and free bookmarks with QR codes linking to recommended children’s titles.
The exhibit also highlights Minnesota Grown, a program that connects consumers with local food producers. Farmer-members will be on hand to answer questions, share their farming experiences, and showcase the Minnesota Grown directory. Visitors can vote for their favorite way to support local farmers and receive a free Swedish dishcloth. Signing up for the Pick of the Month newsletter also enters participants into a prize draw for a basket of Minnesota Grown items. Temporary tattoos featuring the Minnesota Grown logo will be available for children and families to show their support.
Education about invasive pests and noxious weeds is another key feature of the exhibit. Fairgoers can spin a themed prize wheel to answer questions about pests such as the emerald ash borer and spongy moth. This year, special kid-focused questions, Junior Entomologist kits, and personal insect repellents are included as prizes. Visitors will also learn about protecting the environment and managing invasive plants.
The Emerging Farmers Office will provide resources for new and beginning farmers, including information on grants, land access, and language-accessible materials. A prize wheel will add another interactive element for visitors.
Located in the North Hall of the Agriculture/Horticulture Building, the exhibit runs daily during the fair from August 21 through September 1. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., closing at 8 p.m. on Labor Day.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture’s exhibit offers families an opportunity to discover how agriculture impacts daily life, learn about local food systems, and explore careers and resources in farming.
