Minnesota farmers union's 82nd state convention this November

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) is gearing up for its 82nd annual State Convention, bringing together members from across Minnesota. This important event is scheduled for November 17-19 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Minneapolis Northeast.

Kicking off on Friday afternoon, the convention will host three panel discussions. These discussions are centered on critical issues: access to healthcare, development of climate-smart markets, and financial strategies for agricultural projects. Over the weekend, MFU members will engage in debates to shape the organization's policy for the upcoming year. This policy is crucial as it directs the MFU's advocacy efforts.

MFU President Gary Wertish expressed his anticipation for the convention, reflecting on the organization's recent successes, including legislative advancements for MinnesotaCare and the establishment of a grain indemnity fund. Wertish expects robust debates at the convention, especially on pressing matters like the Farm Bill and Right to Repair policies for farm equipment.

The convention is open to all without any entry fee, although meals are ticketed events. For those interested in the detailed schedule and topics, a tentative agenda is available on the Minnesota Farmers Union website.

This convention is a crucial moment for Minnesota's agricultural community to come together, discuss, and plan for the future of farming in the state.
