Minnesota Farmland Rent Session Offers Support

Minnesota Farmland Rent Session Offers Support

By Scout Nelson

A farmland rent workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan, Minnesota. The event is organized to help landowners, producers, and agri-business professionals understand important factors that influence farmland rental decisions. Farmland rent is often the largest cost in crop production, so having accurate and updated information is essential for both landowners and producers.

During the workshop, participants will learn about several key topics. One focus is local historic and projected farmland rental rate trends. Understanding how rental rates have changed over time helps both landowners and producers make informed decisions for the coming season. The workshop will also cover current farmland values and sales, giving attendees a clear picture of market conditions in the region.

Another important topic is determining a fair rental agreement. The workshop will discuss tools, methods, and considerations that can help both parties negotiate agreements that reflect local conditions, production potential, and economic realities. These conversations help strengthen relationships and improve long-term planning for farmland use.

The event is designed for landowners and producers, but anyone involved in agriculture can benefit from the information provided. No registration is required, and the workshop is free to attend. The session will be led by the University of Minnesota Extension, which is committed to offering equal access to its programs. Those needing accommodation for disabilities are encouraged to reach out to the event of contact at least two weeks before the session.

Interpreter services may be available if requested in advance. This workshop will be presented in English and aims to provide clear, helpful information to support better farmland rental decisions across Minnesota.
