Families and farmers from across Minnesota will be recognized for their outstanding contribution to agriculture at the 2025 Farm Family of the Year ceremony. The special event is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, during the annual Minnesota Farmfest held near Redwood Falls. The ceremony will take place at the Gilfillan Estate inside the Wick Buildings Farmfest Center.
This year, the University of Minnesota will honor 86 farm families. These families represent a wide variety of farming backgrounds, from traditional crop and livestock producers to those involved in community-based farming projects. Some families are known for their production of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, showcasing the diversity and richness of Minnesota’s agricultural landscape.
The honorees were selected by local University of Minnesota Extension committees. The selection is based on their strong commitment to enhancing and supporting agriculture in their communities. Their dedication to farming, innovation, and community involvement made them stand out among many.
“This year’s 86 Farm Families of the Year reflect the breadth and variety of agriculture in our state," said Extension Dean Bev Durgan. "The University of Minnesota is proud to honor these families and their innovation and dedication to Minnesota agriculture."
The Farm Family of the Year program highlights the essential role of farm families in strengthening local communities, promoting sustainable practices, and supporting the agricultural economy of Minnesota.
Farmfest continues to serve as an important event that brings together farmers, families, and community members, celebrating the hard work and dedication of those in the agriculture sector. The event also allows the community to recognize and appreciate the contributions of farm families in shaping Minnesota’s agricultural success.
