Minnesota's agricultural scene has been favorable as the state experienced typical autumn conditions, beneficial for wrapping up fall fieldwork effectively.
For the week ending November 12, 2023, farmers had 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork, as reported by the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This period was marked by mild temperatures and minimal precipitation, creating ideal conditions for harvest, tillage, and the application of fertilizers and manure.
The livestock sector reported a smooth period with no significant issues. In terms of soil moisture, topsoil was predominantly adequate, though some areas reported short or very short levels. Subsoil moisture mirrored a similar pattern, ensuring sufficient hydration for crop growth.
Corn harvesting for grain reached 93% completion, slightly behind the previous year but ahead of the five-year average. The average moisture content of the harvested corn stood at 17%. The sunflower harvest also showed significant progress at 92% completion.
Minnesota's agriculture shows success with most fall fieldwork nearly complete, thanks to favorable weather and efficient farming practices.
