MN launches workshop for aspiring young farmers

By Scout Nelson

The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA), in collaboration with Profinium, announces the MN Young & Emerging Farmer Workshop. This event, scheduled alongside the Minnesota Ag Expo from Jan. 16-18 in Mankato, is tailored for individuals early in their farming careers, particularly those aged 21-45 actively crop farming in Minnesota.

MSGA President Bob Worth expressed excitement about the initiative, highlighting the crucial role of young and emerging farmers in the future of agriculture.

Profinium, as the premier title sponsor, joins MSGA in this endeavor. Profinium CEO Ron Kopischke emphasized the importance of supporting young farmers and continuing the family farming legacy. The workshop is also supported by other sponsors, including Blethen Berens, Minnesota Farm Bureau, Crystal Valley, and the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.

The workshop's agenda covers a wide range of topics critical to modern farming. Participants will delve into building financial statements, understanding farm loan options, avoiding tax mistakes, grain marketing, developing on-farm fertilizer programs, comprehending the impact of agricultural policy, and planning for farm succession.

Keynote speakers from the MN Ag Expo and opportunities to engage with the trade show will be integrated into the workshop. This provides an excellent platform for participants to network with peers and industry experts.

MSGA Director Adam Guetter, also a representative on the American Soybean Association board, underscores the workshop's significance in educating farmers and encouraging their future leadership roles in the soybean industry.

Applications are open for the workshop, with a limit of 40 participants and a first-come, first-served selection process. A waiting list will be available for additional interested applicants.

This inaugural workshop represents a unique opportunity for young farmers to gain valuable insights and skills for their agricultural endeavors. Interested individuals can find the application link and full agenda at mnsoybean.org/blog-msga/young-emerging-farmer-workshop.
