Attention organic dairy producers! The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has great news for you. The deadline for the Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program (ODMAP) has been extended to August 11, 2023, providing you with more than two extra weeks to take advantage of this essential support.
ODMAP is designed to help organic dairy producers tackle market volatility, rising input and transportation costs, and unpredictable feed supply and prices. These challenges have posed unique hardships in the organic dairy sector, and the program aims to ensure the sustainability of organic dairy operations until the markets stabilize.
An outstanding $104 million is available through the USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) to help organic dairy producers with their anticipated marketing expenses in 2023. Dairy farms that are certified organic and that make milk from cows, goats, and sheep are eligible producers.
The assistance amount is calculated based on your marketing costs in 2022. If you are a new, transitioning, or expanded organic dairy operation, the support is determined by your projected marketed production in 2023.
Don't miss this opportunity! Apply for ODMAP by contacting your local USDA Service Center. Remember to provide certification of your organic status for both 2022 and 2023, along with the certification of your 2022 milk production in hundredweight during the application process.
ODMAP works alongside other assistance programs available to dairy producers, including Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) and Supplemental DMC, which have already provided more than $611 million in benefits for the 2023 program year.
The USDA is committed to transforming America's food system, ensuring fair markets, promoting safe, nutritious food, supporting farmers with climate-smart practices, and investing in rural infrastructure and clean energy. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, ODMAP ensures dairy's future.
