In 2021, Otter Tail County led all Minnesota counties in total corn silage production with 414,000 tons, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Winona (382,000), Fillmore (328,000), Goodhue (324,000), and Brown (253,000) rounded out the top five highest-producing counties.
Houston County had the highest yield with an average of 28 tons per acre harvested. Dakota and Nicollet had the second- and third-highest yields at 27 and 26.5, respectively. Winona, Fillmore, La Sueur, and Dodge counties tied for fourth, with yields of 26 tons per acre. There were 19 counties that had an average yield of 20 or more tons per acre.
Yields are derived from production divided by area harvested. Only published estimates were considered in rankings of counties.
