Rochester Tour Focuses on Crop Weeds

Rochester Tour Focuses on Crop Weeds

By Scout Nelson

Mark the calendar for Tuesday, July 1, 2025, to attend the Rochester Crop Management Tour. This educational field event offers a hands-on look at current and future weed control practices in corn and soybean farming.

Attendees will explore a wide range of weed management topics and see live demonstrations. Key tour features include herbicide program trials for corn and soybeans and updates on experimental products like Convintro (diflufenican), a new herbicide pending registration.

Experts will also discuss the effects of hard water on herbicide effectiveness, and present results from a corn herbicide trial using AlpHa Shot, a pH adjuster and buffer. Cover crops and their role in weed suppression will also be highlighted.

Another important stop will focus on a multistate study reevaluating residual herbicides in soybeans. In addition, crop specialists will share the latest research on tar spots of corn—a growing concern for many growers.

County Extension staff from Olmsted, Houston, and Fillmore Counties will offer regional updates and expert advice. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and presentations start at 9:00 a.m. There is no cost to attend, and no preregistration is required.

The tour site is located just east of the Olmsted County Recycling Facility on County Road 9 (College View Road). Visitors can follow signage at the recycling entrance and proceed to the demonstration plots using a gravel field road. GPS coordinates are 44.024037, -92.42457.

Additionally, those interested in further weed science learning opportunities can attend the Rosemount Weed Science Field Day on July 10 at the Rosemount Research and Outreach Center. Details and preregistration are available on their official website.

This event is a great opportunity for participants to learn from real field data and stay updated with new tools for better crop management.
