Rollins Celebrates 250 Years of U.S. Farming with National Mall Farmers Market

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is organizing a major celebration to mark America’s 250th anniversary with the Great American Farmers Market. This national event will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from August 3 to August 8, 2025, during National Farmers Market Week.

The market will bring together farmers and vendors from across the country. Participants will include producers of fresh foods, dairy, baked goods, meats, seafood, beverages, and more. Alongside local food sales, musical acts and cultural activities will create a festive environment celebrating the heart of American agriculture.

“There is no greater celebration of America’s legacy than through American agriculture! Farmers helped found our nation and for centuries have diligently passed down the craft of feeding, fueling, and clothing their fellow patriots. The Great American Farmers Market is a celebration of the almost 250 years since our inception and a chance to honor the heart of our nation: agriculture,” said Secretary Rollins.

The USDA’s support for farmers markets dates back to 1995. This year, the department is expanding its efforts by bringing rural America to the capital and offering national exposure to farmers. The event also aims to promote healthier food choices and inspire younger generations to consider careers in agriculture.

Founded by Abraham Lincoln, the USDA remains committed to its mission of serving the people. Hosting this event on the National Mall — where USDA headquarters is located — highlights the central role of farming in the country’s history.

The ribbon-cutting for the event will be held on August 3rd.
