Minnesota is stepping up its support for organic agriculture with a new rebate initiative aimed at easing the financial burden of certification for farmers and handlers. Through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program, certified organic operations in Minnesota may be eligible for substantial rebates covering their certification costs.
The state's Organic Certification Cost-Share Program is targeted at those who obtained or renewed their organic certification between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. Eligible participants can receive reimbursements for up to 75% of the expenses incurred, capped at $750 per category. This includes costs related to certifying crops, livestock, processed goods, and wild harvests.
Funding for this initiative is provided through a cooperative agreement with the USDA Farm Service Agency and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested applicants have until October 31 to submit their applications.
Those looking to benefit from this program can find more information and apply either through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's dedicated website or by contacting their local Farm Service Agency office.
This rebate program underscores Minnesota’s commitment to supporting its organic sector. It not only aids in offsetting the costs associated with maintaining high standards of organic production but also ensures that operations comply with the stringent requirements set by the National Organic Standards.
These standards are enforced through regular record reviews and annual on-site inspections, safeguarding the integrity of organically labeled products and providing assurance to consumers about the quality and practices behind their organic purchases.
