The University of Minnesota Extension is set to host two comprehensive Nitrogen College events, aimed at aiding farmers and agricultural professionals in mastering nitrogen management. These events are scheduled for January 30-31 at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen and February 5-6 at Jackpot Junction near Morton.
They are designed to assist attendees in navigating the complexities of nitrogen use, considering both the high fertilizer costs and environmental impacts.
Nitrogen College offers five sessions over two days, including "A Deep Dive Into the 4 Rs," "Adapting N Management to Climate," and "Reducing Nitrate Loss to Water," which focus on nitrogen fertilizer management, climate adaptation, and improving water quality through techniques like reducing nitrate loss.
The program introduces two new sessions: "Biological Nitrogen Products," exploring the latest in biological technologies for fertility programs, and "Variable Rate Technology for Nitrogen Applications," discussing the benefits of using variable rate technology in nitrogen application.
These events, supported by the Minnesota Corn Growers, are free to attend, with no pre-registration required. Certified Crop Advisors attending can earn valuable continuing education units, with up to five Nutrient Management and six Soil and Water credits available. Attendees are advised to make their own lunch arrangements as meals will not be provided.
Nitrogen College not only provides an opportunity for learning and professional development but also emphasizes the importance of efficient nitrogen management in modern agriculture. With detailed schedules available online for Mahnomen & Morton both.
