What's a Fair Farm Rental Agreement?

Landlords, farmers and agri-business professionals should make plans to attend one of the upcoming free land rent meetings hosted by the University of Minnesota Extension. Farmland rental rates are the largest input cost the farmer has and determining a fair farm rent agreement is always challenging. Extension ag business management educators David Bau and Nathan Hulinsky will help attendees determine a farmland rental rate that is fair for both the farmer and the renter.

Bau and Hulinsky will review and examine local historic and projected farmland rental rate trends, current farmland values and sales, determining a fair rental agreement, input costs for 2022, current 2022 corn and soybean prices, affordable rent, rate of return to the landlord at current market values and flexible rental agreements.

The meetings will be held Nov. 3 to Feb. 9 in Sauk Centre, Becker, LeCenter, Mankato, Slayton, Alexandria, Little Falls, Olivia, Willmar, Crookston, Ada, Cologne, Jordan, Rochester, Sleepy Eye, Owatonna, Faribault, Gaylord, Hutchinson, Preston, Caledonia, Litchfield, Buffalo, Blooming Prairie, Elko New Market, Albert Lea, Blue Earth, St. Peter, Pipestone, Madison and online.
